About the Workshop

Gordon Wetmore has painted royalty, politicians and celebrities all over the world! In this workshop, you’ll learn how his unique painting process has brought him to his prominence in the world of portrait painters. Equally adept at Oils, Watercolors and Pastels, Gordon will demo in each of these mediums and provide lots of at–the–easel instruction… This will be a great workshop and will expand on his new DVD “The Portrait Process.”

Workshop Schedule

Three Day Workshop on the Mediums of Pastel, Watercolor and Oil and how they affect each other.

9:30AM to 3:30PM
Day 1–Pastel Demonstration
Day 2–Watercolor Demonstration
Day 3–Oil Demonstration

Set-up
Every morning each artist will set up their easel and materials to work in the medium they prefer.

Demonstration
After a 30 minute video of a portrait demonstration in one medium I will begin a sketch in that medium.

The Sketch
The artists present can watch me sketch, followed by questions, or they can begin their sketch at the same time.

The Four Bands of Color on the Face
After I finish my sketch I will paint the four bands of color on the face.

The Block–in
Then I will block in all the color for the rest of the portrait

The Final Pass
After this I begin at the top and add detail to the features of the face

Restating the Details and Values
Then I make another pass in which I restate the features and planes of the face to finish

Demonstrations will be followed by Q&A sessions. A voluntary exhibition and critique of classwork will be held at the end of each class.
