About the Workshop

Start out by learning how to represent the large planes and shapes of the human figure in proper perspective and proportion. On the first day, students will work with drawing materials and use photos and manikins to get the basics of artists’ anatomy, gesture, shapes, proportion and perspective. We’ll also discuss mixing flesh tones. On days two and three, students will put those basic practices to work by painting from the live nude in their choice of oils, acrylics or pastels. There will be handouts, demos and lots of individual instruction.

Schedule:

9am–3:30pm,
half hour lunch break.

Day 1—Students will do plenty of drawing today using photos and manikins.

Morning devoted to learning basic artist’s anatomy, simplifying and using line and shape to represent the figure.

Afternoon—Discussion and demonstrations of proportion, perspective, value, color and temperature. Students will complete several drawing exercises to illustrate the lesson. We’ll also talk about mixing flesh tones with a limited palette.

Day 2—The instructor will do short step–by–step demos which the students will then re–create on their own canvases.

Day 3—Students will use the entire day to complete a painting with at–the–easel individual instruction.

About the Artist

I am one of the millions of “self–taught” artists in the world today, but am very blessed that my art has brought me notice and opportunity I could never have imagined. I’ve attained Signature Status in the Pastel Society of America. I’m a member of and Wisconsin Ambassador for the Portrait Society of America and also a member of Oil Painters of America. I teach workshops in Wisconsin and beyond and am so very fortunate to have met and become friends with some truly wonderful artists from throughout the country.
